Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how the LEAF Lab website (leafnlp.org) uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies. We are committed to minimizing data collection — we use only what is strictly necessary to run the Site.

What Is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of data stored in your browser when you visit a website. Cookies can store preferences, session state, or tracking information. Not all cookies are the same — some are essential for a site to function, while others serve advertising or analytics purposes.

We use browser localStorage (a similar technology) rather than traditional HTTP cookies for our consent preference. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is never sent to the server with each request — it stays entirely in your browser.

Cookies and Storage We Use

Name Type Purpose Duration Third party?
leaf-cookie-consent localStorage Stores whether you have dismissed the cookie consent banner, so we don't show it on every page. Persistent (until you clear browser data) No

That's it. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies (e.g., Google Analytics), social media tracking pixels, or any third-party cookies. We have no cookie-based session management because the Site has no login system.

Third-Party Content

Some pages link to or embed content from third-party services. If you follow a link to YouTube, GitHub, Google Scholar, or a journal publisher, those sites may set their own cookies according to their own policies. We do not control or take responsibility for third-party cookies.

We do not embed any third-party iframes or widgets that would cause third-party cookies to be set when you load our pages.

Google Fonts

We load the Inter typeface from Google Fonts. Google Fonts requests do not set cookies and Google states that font requests are not used to track or identify users. However, your IP address is shared with Google's servers as part of the font request. If you prefer to avoid this, you can block Google Fonts requests in your browser.

How to Control Cookies

You have full control over cookies and local storage:

  • Browser settings: All modern browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies and local storage. Look in your browser's Settings → Privacy or Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage.
  • Incognito/Private mode: Using private browsing prevents any persistent storage being saved after you close the window.
  • Opt-out below: Use the button below to clear our consent flag and reset the cookie banner.

Manage your consent on this Site:

Clicking "Reset consent" removes the leaf-cookie-consent value from your browser's local storage and shows the consent banner again on your next visit.

Done! Your consent preference has been cleared.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the Site or applicable law. Changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date above.
