Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
The LEAF Lab at Stevens Institute of Technology ("we", "us", or "our") operates leafnlp.org (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling any personal information with transparency and care.
1. Information We Collect
We collect very limited information. Specifically, our web server may log the following data automatically when you visit the Site:
- IP address (anonymized or hashed)
- Browser type and version
- Pages visited and time of visit
- Referring URL
These server logs are retained for operational and security purposes only (e.g., diagnosing errors, preventing abuse) and are not used to identify individual users.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily contact us (e.g., by emailing ping.wang [at] stevens.edu).
2. Cookies
We use a single, strictly necessary cookie to remember your cookie consent preference
(stored in localStorage under the key leaf-cookie-consent).
This is not a tracking cookie — it contains no personal data and is never sent to any
third party.
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics), or any third-party tracking technologies. For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
The limited server log data we collect is used solely to:
- Keep the Site running securely and reliably
- Diagnose technical problems
- Understand aggregate traffic patterns (no individual tracking)
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes. Server logs are stored on infrastructure we control (AWS EC2) and are not shared outside our team except when required by law.
5. Third-Party Links
The Site contains links to external resources (e.g., Google Scholar, GitHub, YouTube, journal websites). Once you leave our Site, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any sites you visit.
6. Children's Privacy
This Site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Security
We use HTTPS (TLS) to encrypt data in transit between your browser and our server. Access to the server is restricted and monitored. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
8. Your Rights
Because we collect minimal personal data, there is little to exercise rights over. However, if you have concerns about any data we may hold, please contact us and we will respond promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
